Licking County can be found in the heart of Ohio and is adjacent to Knox County, Coshocton County, Perry County and Delaware County. This Ohio region got its name from the abundance of salt licks that were found in the area when the county was founded on January 30, 1808. It is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Statistical Area and as of 2010 had a population of 166,492.

Popular places of interest in Licking County include the Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve, Ye Olde Mill in Utica where Velvet Ice Cream is made, the Heisey Glass Museum, and the Longaberger Basket Facility.

High school sports have been popular in Licking County for many years. The Ohio state title for high school baseball has been won by Licking County High School every year since 2002. That same year two other Licking County schools won state titles, Newark Catholic High School and Heath High School.
